Difference between Self-Healing and Repair

  1. Self Heal is triggered by advertised shortcuts, or other advertising information in the package such as file extensions which eventually Repairs the application.
  2. When the application is launched by advertised shortcut, it checks for all the key paths of the Current Feature, if any of the key paths is missing it will launch Repair.
  3. if multiple features are present in the MSI then it will also check the features in which advertised point resides.This is useful when you want to add user feature to install user components during self heal by making it a parent feature.
  4. Repair of an MSI can be triggered by
  • Repair button in Add/Remove programs
  • Giving the command line msiexec /f{other options} {MSI name}
  • Self Heal by advertised shortcut or other advertising information
  •  Active setup
